Article 4 Directions remove some of the normal “permitted development rights” that residential properties enjoy.
They're usually introduced in a conservation area to ensure that minor developments, such as roof or window replacements, don't damage the area's character and appearance.
In Richmondshire, both Middleham and Leyburn conservation areas have Article 4 Directions. The following design guides have been produced to help owners:
