Reminders sent for electoral register
Round two of the process to keep Richmondshire’s register of electors up to date has begun.
Residents who have not completed and returned forms sent to them in July are now being issued with reminder letters.
Anyone who receives a reminder must reply to the district council – even if there are no amendments to make. This can be done online at householdresponse.com/richmondshire; by texting No Change and the security code to 80212; or by calling 0800 1979871 and when prompted entering part one and part two of the security code.
Around 24,000 properties were initially sent forms – of those 3,700 are receiving reminder letters. A small number (around 300) will receive telephone calls when the details can be completed instantly.
The annual canvass keeps the electoral register up to date and identifies any residents who are not registered. With elections taking place in the district in May next year (2021) it is important that residents are able to take part.
And the register is also used by companies when checking credit ratings.
“It’s vital that residents return these reminder letters so we can make sure we have the right details on the electoral register for every address in the district,” said Tony Clark, Electoral Registration Officer at Richmondshire District Council.
“This year’s canvass, which we have to carry out by law, is taking place during a challenging time but we are working to ensure we follow Covid-19 guidelines, including the continued importance of social distancing.”
