Keld Resources Centre
Council Chairman, Councillor Clive World, visited Swaledale to check out the Keld Resources Centre. This is a community based charity responsible for the upkeep and restoration of a cluster of important historical buildings in the village. It aims to preserve the heritage and traditions of Swaledale life through a growing online Local History Archive, public talks and guided walks events.
He was given a tour of the visitor centre, well-being garden, community orchard and the Upper Room events and exhibition space that is situated on the upper floor of the old Institute building.
The project is funded through donations, an annual events programme, and income from the Manse holiday cottage, situated next to the Chapel. Having completed a full restoration of the Institute building over recent years, the next phase is to restore the old school building for community use.
Resource Centre Trustee Helen Guy explained that the current challenge is to raise funds at a time when the visitor centre and holiday cottage had to be closed for a key period of the summer season through covid-19, which resulted in a significant loss of income for the project.
More information about Keld Resource Centre and the local history archive can be found on the Keld Resource Centre website.
