Richmondshire District Council

Energy improvement scheme

Richmondshire District Council is offering grants to improve heating and insulation in homes this winter (2021).

The Energy Improvement Scheme offers grants for efficient boiler upgrades, cavity wall insulation and loft insulation to qualifying homeowners and private renting tenants. The scheme aims to help residents reduce their energy bills.

In many cases, the grants may cover the full cost of the improvements. This will help residents save money in the long term without incurring upfront costs. Residents that receive certain benefits are likely to qualify for the scheme.

Also, households with an annual income of under £30,000 may also be able to receive support if anyone living in the property is:

Colin Dales, Corporate Director for Richmondshire District Council said: With winter around the corner, we are urging residents to take advantage of our Energy Improvement Scheme to keep warm in their homes.

“The scheme will allow households in the district to get funding for insulation and energy efficient heating systems that will reduce their energy bills as well as their carbon footprint.”

The scheme is being managed by Community Interest Company YES Energy Solutions on behalf of Richmondshire District Council. Funding is sourced from the Government’s Energy Company Obligation scheme, with additional financial support offered by the council for certain residents.

Since the scheme started in 2019 the council has allocated £142,000 to it with £45,000 coming from the Government’s pot.

Installs are completed by YES Energy Solutions’ network of industry accredited contractors.
