Reopening of car parks and toilets
Richmondshire’s car parks and toilet blocks will reopen this weekend (Saturday May 23).
The District Council facilities have been closed for the last eight weeks to help contain the spread of coronavirus.
But with travel restrictions relaxed and more people coming into the district the decision to reopen has been taken.
Colin Dales, Corporate Director, explained: “This has not been an easy decision for the council to make as we need to weigh up the understandable concerns of our communities whilst accepting the inevitable increase in visitor numbers.
“This is a very difficult balance to achieve but with some of our neighbouring authorities already reopening and the anticipated further relaxation of restrictions at the beginning of June, we need to be prepared as the country’s recovery begins to take shape.”
He said new signage will be installed in and around the facilities stressing the need for continued social distancing and virus spread prevention measures. Regular cleansing of public toilets will also be re-introduced as part of the reopening.
The pay and display car parks across the district will still be free for NHS workers who display their NHS badge in the car window.
