Richmondshire District Council is in a state of no overall control today after no party took a majority at yesterday’s elections.
More than 35.58% of the electorate turned out to cast their vote in the local elections yesterday (May 2). It is the first election since a Local Government Boundary Commission review reduced the number of councillors from 34 down to 24.
They represent 16 wards across Richmondshire, sitting in one three councillor ward; six two councillor wards and nine single councillor wards. There were 54 people standing for the 24 seats – with elections in every ward.
The political make up of the council is now:
Independents - 10
Conservative Party - 10
Liberal Democrats - 3
Green Party - 1
