Business grants uptake
A massive 700 Richmondshire businesses have contacted the council to supply the required information needed to provide small business grants due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The district council launched its online grants service for small business rate relief, rural rate relief and retail, hospitality and leisure grants on Friday. Over the weekend around 20% of the eligible businesses had applied. That had risen to 39% or 694 businesses by this afternoon (Tuesday March 31), with 72% of those forms already verified for payment.
These are now being processed by the authority’s team ready to pay out when the government cash is released – that is expected to be later this week.
The council estimates there are around 1800 district based businesses able to receive help.
- Businesses entitled to Small Business Rate Relief or Rural Rate Relief as at 11 March 2020 are able to receive a grant of £10,000
- Businesses in receipt of a retail discount under the Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Grant with a rateable value of less than £51,000 are able to receive a grant of up to £10,000, and for those businesses with a rateable value of greater than £15,000 but less than £51,000 a grant of £25,000
