Richmondshire District Council

Scheme to reduce fuel poverty

A scheme which has already removed 56 Richmondshire householders from fuel poverty is to be extended.

Members of the District Council’s Corporate Board last night (Tuesday June 15) allocated another £70,000 to the Ecoflex scheme.

The initiative is part of the national Energy Company Obligation where energy suppliers have an obligation to fund the installation of domestic energy efficiency measures in homes that are suffering from fuel poverty. The district council has a match funding role in the work.

In the last year, the council has allocated almost £75,000 to the work which has seen 56 homes benefit from replacement boilers and new insulation. The scheme also brings carbon reduction benefits as a result of the energy efficiency measures installed.
