Lorry park study
Alternative uses for Colburn Lorry Park are to be explored.
A feasibility study will look into everything from residential and commercial uses to community schemes. As well as a mixture of all three.
Members of Richmondshire District Council’s Corporate Board last night (July 13) gave the go ahead for the £20,000 study on the 0.8 acre site opposite the Broadway Shopping area.
The site has been a lorry park for many years. It was set up when there was a need for parking by local long distance lorry drivers. In December last year the district council was approached by Colburn Town Council with a request to buy the land but that was then withdrawn. This left Richmondshire with a decision on what to do with the site.
“We are looking for an innovative scheme for this land which could be a combination of residential, commercial or community use,” said Council Leader, Councillor Angie Dale.
“It must take into account our climate change objectives to drive down carbon emissions. I am looking forward to seeing what ideas come forward in this study.”
The feasibility study will allow for consultation with Colburn ward and town councillors.
Councillors also agreed to install a temporary portaloo on the site to tackle anti - social behaviour experienced by local residents.
