Cycleways in the district
Richmondshire councillors are to press for more cycleways in the district, particularly between Scorton, Brompton on Swale and Richmond.
Members of Full Council yesterday (July 22) supported a motion to press North Yorkshire County Council to create safe cycling routes for local people, schoolchildren and visitors.
Councillor Leslie Rowe asked colleagues to back a 654 strong petition calling for an alternative to car routes to look after the health and well being of local people. He said that there have been previous attempts to get a cycle route between Scorton and Richmond but they have been thwarted by a lack of support and funds.
He said with the government announcing that cycle and bus only corridors will be built across the UK, the time was right to create new routes in Richmondshire which could be used by children going to school, workers getting to jobs in the district and be a boost for the tourist industry.
