Richmondshire has been voted as the best place to live in England according to the Halifax Quality of Life Survey 2019.
The UK based survey placed Orkney as the UK’s best place to live with Richmondshire coming second. The survey stated that Richmondshire won its position based upon “excellent personal wellbeing scores across all measures of life satisfaction, worthwhile, happiness and low anxiety”.
Richmondshire also scores strongly on low crime rate, traffic flows and population density. It also has one of the highest ratios of pubs to population which is no surprise given its attraction to the many visitors wishing to take in the views and walks around the Yorkshire Dales.
Richmondshire District Council's Leader Cllr Yvonne Peacock was particularly excited about the news of Richmondshire's recognition and stated: “I am delighted that Richmondshire has come second place in Halifax’s “UK’s best place to live” 2019 survey and has been confirmed as the best place in England to live. The results confirm what we already know, which is that Richmondshire is a wonderful place to live, with thanks also being owed to our amazing local communities and businesses. Moving up from ninth place in 2017, to second, shows the huge improvements which have been made in crucial areas such as housing, employment, leisure and personal wellbeing. It is great to see the hard work of the community recognised by such a wide audience. I feel incredibly proud to call Richmondshire my home and I am sure my fellow Richmondshire residents will agree.”
As a district, Richmondshire prides itself on not only its spectacular landscape but also its entrepreneurial culture and Cllr Peacock was keen to point out that Richmondshire is a great place to both live and work. “Any family looking for a great quality of life, or a business looking to re-locate should read the survey and make the most of what this stunning area has to offer. Beautiful scenery, thriving communities and an ‘open for business’ approach to the economy should make Richmondshire top of anyone’s choice of a destination to live and work.”
