Richmondshire District Council

Richmondshire’s community safety function has been preserved for a further 12 months.

The District Council’s Corporate Board last week (15 January) approved funding of £29,200 to protect the service up to 31st March 2020.

The service, which deals with a wide range of issues ranging from anti-social behaviour through to tackling radicalisation, includes the co-ordination of actions with key partners to tackle local community safety issues.

Councillor Ian Threlfall, Deputy Leader of the Council, explained: “Community safety plays an important part in keeping our communities safe and funding was due to run out at the end of March.
“With local elections in May we thought it best to extend funding for a fixed period to ensure we don’t lose the service but without pre-judging what a newly elected political administration will want to do in the longer term. This decision will ensure the newly elected administration can undertake a review of community safety prior to making any longer terms commitments.”
