Richmondshire District Council

Flag raised at Richmondshire

Richmondshire District Council marked National Armed Forces Day by ‘flying the flag’ last week (Monday June 19).

Chairman of the Council, Councillor Angie Dale, led officials from the authority – along with forces personnel - in a ceremony to raise a special flag in Friary Gardens, Richmond.

Councillor Dale gave the initial address and Col Peter Stitt, Commandant of the School of Infantry at Catterick Garrison replied on behalf of the armed forces.  They were joined by veterans, civic leaders, councillors, representatives from the Fire Service, Police, St John’s Ambulance and Royal British Legion, local school children from MKC (Military Kids Club) Heroes and forces personnel – Army, Navy and RAF.

“It is important that our Armed Forces past and present are shown support and gratitude for the huge personal sacrifices they have made and continue to make for our country,” said Councillor Dale.

“To have so many people represented at the ceremony – both present and past military personnel - made the event very special.”
