Richmond School's eco club achievements
Richmond School’s Eco Club celebrated their achievements during their final week of the summer term (21 July 2022) when Richmondshire District Council Chair, Councillor Lorraine Hodgson, paid them a visit.
Cllr Hodgson and the council’s Climate Change team heard about the group’s work towards 'green flag accreditation'. She had met members at a community event organised by the Richmondshire Climate Action Partnership in Leyburn where they heard about the work going on in the local community along with the strategies being used by the Council.
This year the 45 members have been carrying out investigations around the school site and building team skills to function as leaders. The group is aiming to further develop this work with other projects such as building bird boxes in the new term in September. The club recently attended a Richmondshire Climate Change event in Leyburn where they showcased their work.
“We look forward to seeing the club grow and see the positive impact they have on our environment,” said Cllr Hodgson.
“Our eco club members were very excited to continue their networking following the event in Leyburn. They shared their progress towards achieving green flag accreditation and gained strategies for implementing their ideas from the Council. We are hugely grateful to the Council for their ongoing support in helping the eco club work with the local community to envisage a wider environmental goal for all," said Mrs Weston, Head of Year 10.
