Scheme to help improve home energy efficiency
Richmondshire residents are being urged not to miss out on funding which could reduce household bills.
The District Council is taking part in a scheme to provide eligible residents with free insulation and brand new A-rated boilers, which will help improve energy efficiency. It also includes installing central heating in homes without a system and heating system repairs.
Householders that could be eligible are currently receiving letters detailing the scheme and how to apply. The funding aims to help householders who have high energy bills in relation to their income. They may qualify through a range of criteria including receiving means tested benefits or being on a low household income with high energy bills.
Elderly residents, those with a young family, pregnant women or residents with a health condition made worse by the cold, could also qualify for funding.
One recipient is 55-year-old Robert Hurray from Catterick Garrison who received a fully funded gas central heating system to replace his old inefficient system. He had been off work after suffering ill-health and the loss of his wife.
“I had a heart attack and I’ve not been fairing too well. I am a plasterer and I’m trying to get back to work but I can’t do anything at the moment,” he said.
“My old boiler just wasn’t efficient enough, only one or two radiators got hot from it. Now when the heating is on full it’s really hot!”
Robert’s central heating install was fully funded by the scheme which is managed by YES Energy Solutions which uses industry accredited contractors to complete the work.
YES Energy Solutions is also accessing the Government’s Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme to provide additional funds to certain residents.
The scheme is continuing on a first come first served basis. Residents who think that they may qualify for the scheme should contact YES Energy Solutions on 01422 880100.
