Richmondshire District Council

A free shuttle bus service will be provided for visitors to Reeth Show this weekend – thanks to Richmondshire District Council.

The authority is granting show organisers £950 to put on the bus service from newly created car parks – the fields normally used for vehicles were badly affected by the recent flash floods.

“We are delighted that the show is going ahead despite the devastation caused to the village and surrounding area by the flash floods – it shows true community spirit,” said Leader of the Council, Councillor Angie Dale.

“One of their biggest concerns was parking and making provision for the hundreds of people who venture to Swaledale for this traditional show. Being able to make a small donation to provide this free shuttle bus service is going to make a difference to the success of the event.

“The Yorkshire Dales are very much open for business.”

The show – a traditional Dales agricultural show – takes place next Monday (August 26) on land close to the village. It features animals, vintage vehicles, stalls, refreshments and shows – as well as the annual Great Fremington Edge Fell Race. The show starts at 9.30 am with a parade through the village by Reeth Brass Band, the show committee and judges.

Reeth Show takes place from 9.30 am – 5 pm. Admission is £8 (children - £2). Free parking will be available at Ellerton Abbey Farm on the B6270 Richmond to Grinton Road, with a free bus service from there to the showground. The service will run from 10 am with return journeys up to 6pm.
