Richmond residents are to get a sneak preview of the official ‘Tour de Yorkshire’ trophies next week.
The men’s and women’s trophies go on their own tour ahead of the May cycling race – spending a day in Richmond on Friday March 16.
The bespoke gold Y’s will visit local schools and museums – and will be available for public viewing during an hour long stop at The Station from 2pm. Designed and crafted by Yorkshire company, Thomas Fattorini Ltd, the trophies are taken to each of the eight 2018 race starts and finishes.
“We are very excited to be welcoming the trophies to Richmond next week,” said Council Leader, Councillor Yvonne Peacock. “Momentum for the race is building up - plans for celebrations to mark its visit are well underway, work on dressing the route is taking shape and the general interest in this high profile event is building.”
And General Manager of The Station, Eileen Halliday, added: “The trophy tour is an amazing opportunity for us – displaying them within our community building for the public to see will be wonderful. We are very excited to be part of this major cycling event.”
