Richmondshire District Council

A scheme which will help district council officers communicate with customers and visitors who are profoundly deaf is being piloted.

SignLive will connect the council to an interpreter who will use sign language.  Using a mobile device the customer can be spoken to either in private or as part of a group or meeting; in a council building or in the customer’s home.

“It is vital that our services are available to everyone – both visitors and residents – so introducing the SignLive scheme is a great addition to our accessibility,” said Council Leader, Councillor Yvonne Peacock.

Richmondshire District Council is piloting the service for six months before deciding if it will become a permanent feature.
