A record number of businesses based in Richmondshire came up trumps this year at the Flavours of Herriot Country Awards.
The annual event, presented by BBC Radio York, took place on Friday 30th November at The Garden Rooms, Tennants. Each year offers an opportunity for local businesses within Hambleton and Richmondshire to celebrate the best food, drink and hospitality found within the districts.
With 14 categories to win, eight were clinched by Richmondshire based businesses, including “Cafe/restaurant of the year at a visitor attraction”, an award sponsored by Richmondshire District Council and won by the Coppice Cafe.
The Coppice Cafe in Aysgarth also went on to win the “D&S readers’ choice” award, making it one of only two businesses to win more than one category.
The Wensleydale Brewery, based in Leyburn, took home the category of “Locally produced beer of the year”.
Geoff Southgate of the brewery said of their win “We’re so pleased to win against really great local competition, it rounded off what has been a big year following our move to new premises and we can’t wait for 2019”.
“Local Product of the Year” went to the Colburn based Yorkshire Dales Distillery. Distillery director Sarah Brotherton said “We are extremely proud of our dedicated team who have worked tirelessly in supporting the growth of our company. The award is very humbling and we are overwhelmed at the positive feedback from the judges and the public who all appear to love the range. Thank you to everyone who has and continues to support us, we are truly honoured!”
Richmondshire District Council Leader, Cllr Yvonne Peacock attended the event and presented the award for “Cafe/restaurant of the year at a visitor attraction”.
Cllr Peacock said “We are so fortunate to have such a diverse range of wonderful food producers, retailers and establishments in Richmondshire, providing high quality products and eating experiences.
