The first phase of a ten year programme to update district council run toilet blocks in Richmondshire is expected to start this spring.

Members of the authority’s corporate board will next week (January 16) give approval to the £105,000 scheme – which is part of the council’s capital programme.

And during 2018/19 £20,000 of it will be invested in upgrading ten of the oldest hand wash units.  The remaining 20 units will be replaced by the end of 2021.

The improvement programme will also see repairs to:


“These improvements will improve the general condition and long term viability of the public toilets, along with removing any potential risks to the public within these areas,” said Council Deputy Leader, Councillor Ian Threlfall.

“We now charge people to use these facilities so it is important we keep them up to scratch and reinvest the income we receive into them.”
