Thousands of homes across Catterick Garrison have been issued with information on what can and cannot be recycled through kerbside collections.
Richmondshire District Council has sent the 3,200 properties its new look recycling booklet after calls from members of the military.
They had said that because the population on the garrison is constantly changing, new members of the community were confused about what the district council takes from the kerbside and what must be recycled at household waste recycling centres.
And within a matter of weeks of the information drop the amount of recyclate collected had risen from just over 16 tonnes to almost 18!
The authority collects glass, cans, paper, cardboard, plastics and textiles at the kerbside every fortnight – in green and black boxes and blue and white bags, which are also supplied. Glass, cans and plastic are collected in boxes – with glass kept separate; paper and card in blue and white bags; and textiles in home supplied bags. Boxes and bags can be collected from council offices in Richmond and Colburn.
