Richmondshire District Council

Another ten Richmondshire businesses have appointed apprentices thanks to a district council initiative – bringing the number supported since February to 14.

Awards through the wage subsidy scheme went to businesses looking to appoint apprentices to a variety of positions - including a Level 4 Accounts Assistant, Level 3 Hospitality Team Member and a Level 2 NVQ in Commercial Cleaner.

Purple Creative Services Ltd, a digital agency based in Aske, near Richmond is appointing a Level 3 Software Development Technician to join the team.

Client Services Director, Sarah Comerford said: “We are delighted to have been helped by the Richmondshire District Council scheme. Over the years, we have championed apprenticeships in our industry and have employed three - so we are excited to be taking on our fourth, George Shaw, under this scheme.

“Apprenticeships play such a vital part in our business. They offer someone the opportunity to learn new skills and develop a career whilst working full time. As a business it helps us to engage and nurture young talent which is always needed in the digital technology industry.”

And District Council Leader, Councillor Angie Dale added: “This scheme helps local businesses to develop home grown talent and retain young, ambitious members of staff who might otherwise have to leave the area to find skilled work.

“We are delighted to see more businesses take advantage of it.”

Through the scheme, local businesses are able to apply for funding to support the costs of taking on a new apprentice with a grant towards their wages. Apprenticeships of Level 1 to 3 can secure a grant of £2,000 whilst businesses looking to appoint an apprentice on a Level 4 or above apprenticeship can apply for £3,000.
