Leyburn has been unveiled as one of the eight host towns for the 2020 Tour de Yorkshire.

Welcome to Yorkshire and the Amaury Sport Organisation announced today (Friday November 22) that the market town will feature in the race during the four day event next spring. Final details of the route and whether the race will start or finish in Leyburn will be revealed in mid-January.

Leyburn is joined by seven other host locations – Barnsley, Beverley, Halifax, Huddersfield, Leeds, Redcar and Skipton.

“This is another massive coup for Richmondshire – coming on the back of the Tour de Yorkshire start in Richmond last year and the start of the men’s junior race in the UCI Road World Championships just two months ago,” said Council Leader, Councillor Angie Dale.

“We have a great track record of putting on a good show at these events – our residents and businesses embrace them. We expect them all to be out in force to support another brilliant days racing in North Yorkshire – watching the riders come through some of the most beautiful parts of Yorkshire.

“We have already started planning for the event – we aim to make the start the best ever, giving everyone attending – riders, local residents and visitors – the best experience.”

The race takes place from April 30 to May 3, 2020.
