Richmondshire District Council

Have your say on new policy

Local people are being asked to have their say on a new strategy that gives them a voice on council policies.

Richmondshire District Council’s new consultation strategy will give a consistent approach to community engagement across all areas of the authority.

“We think it is important for everyone to have the opportunity to have their say on local issues that affect or interest them,” said Council Leader, Councillor Yvonne Peacock..

“All opinions are important to us in developing the policies that shape our district - this strategy outlines how we will work together to inform, consult and involve local people in decision making, and adopt a consistent approach across all service areas.”

The Council Plan 2015-19 sets out the vision to ‘provide value for money services to the Richmondshire communities and to the people who live in, work in and visit the district.’

“Working with our communities is one of the five key priorities we have identified in delivering this vision so community engagement is at the heart of everything that we plan to do,” she added.

“By 2019, we aim to ensure that consultation, engagement activity is a fundamental part of developing Council policy, and that our communities feel informed and able to participate in shaping the services that the Council will deliver in the future.”

The strategy also forms part of the Council’s Equalities Objectives for 2017/2018.
