Richmondshire District Council looks set to approve a policy to award discretionary rate relief to businesses that provide childcare services.
Members of the authority’s Corporate Board last night (Tuesday October 9) agreed that childcare providers meeting local criteria should qualify for 50% rate relief after any additional mandatory reliefs have been awarded.
The businesses must cater for ten or more children under the age of eight, offer care from 8am until 5pm, be an Ofsted or other approved provider, accept childcare vouchers, and deliver the government’s requirement of 30 hours free childcare per child per week. Relief cannot be awarded to a precepting authority – district, county or parish council, fire and rescue or police services.
Members of Full Council will be asked to approve the new scheme at their meeting on Tuesday October 23.
