Richmondshire District Council

Kickstart scheme

Sixteen placements have been approved through the council’s Kickstart gateway.

Richmondshire District Council has secured funding for local businesses to provide job placements through the government’s Kickstart scheme.

The scheme provides funding to create new job placements for young people, aged between 16-24, who are on Universal Credit and at risk of long term unemployment.

The district council applied to become a ‘gateway’ for the scheme to help smaller businesses, wanting only 1 or 2 placements, to access the funding. Originally, businesses would have needed to include 30 placements in an application, meaning many smaller businesses could have missed out.

"We have been successful in receiving funding for 16 jobs for a range of businesses including those in the retail, hospitality and IT sectors,” said Sue White, Business and Community Manager. “The range of placements available through these businesses is also broad and includes sales assistants, baristas, graphic designers and digital marketing assistants.”

The gateway opened again today (April 1) for expressions of interest from businesses wishing to provide placements for young people. It closes on April 30. For further details and to apply go to our Kickstart scheme page.
