Redevelopment of Catterick Garrison town centre

A council-owned consultancy has been chosen to undertake feasibility studies for the redevelopment of Catterick Garrison town centre.

The studies will look at ideas to support the growth of the town, improved transport links and the delivery of high quality services for local residents.

When completed next spring (2021) they will centre on a mix of community, recreation and leisure facilities as well as retail, medical and residential accommodation. These will all be brought together with sustainable transport links.

Richmondshire District Council is working with the MoD on the schemes which will be centred around Shute Road and Richmond Road, close to the new Princes Gate shopping centre. They are also looking at a public partnership to include the NHS which owns the Harewood Clinic on the site.

EHDC-RegenCo, which forms part of East Hampshire District Council (EHDC), has been appointed by the District Council in liaison with the Defence Infrastructure Organisation, the property arm of the Ministry of Defence. It offers a strong and unique public/private partnership combining public sector knowledge and understanding with private sector pace and ingenuity.

“We are looking to create a community focal point to underpin the wider Garrison growth predicted within our Local Plan,” said Richmondshire District Council Leader, Councillor Angie Dale.

“These studies will take forward our aspirations for a town centre - combining future expansion at the Garrison as well as the ongoing growth within the Richmondshire district. This is a very exciting project for Catterick Garrison.”

Louise Ryder, DIO Programme Manager said: “We are working alongside our partners in Richmondshire District Council and the Local Enterprise Partnership to redevelop Catterick Garrison. We welcome the expertise that EHDC-RegenCo will bring to the project to help realise the plans for the town, which will have far-reaching benefits for the military and civilian communities.”

Cllr Richard Millard, Leader of East Hampshire District Council, added: “EHDC-RegenCo has developed an excellent track record of helping local authorities, the DIO and other partners accelerate the delivery of high-quality homes, jobs and sustainable communities, as well as drive forward town centre regeneration schemes. We look forward to utilising this experience to help Richmondshire and the DIO.”
