Richmondshire District Council

Funding available for improving home heating

Richmondshire residents are being urged to apply for a free central heating system before the funding runs out.

Homeowners and private renting tenants that don’t have any radiators in their property and currently use inefficient storage heaters, room heaters or fires could get an A-rated gas-powered central heating system installed in their home for free.

So far three homes have had new systems installed – and there is funding available for seven more.

To qualify for the funding, each resident must either be in receipt of certain state benefits or have a household income below £21,000 and live in a property that wastes energy. Householders who have young children, are over 65 or have certain health conditions could also receive support.

Richmondshire District Council will provide match funding to support installations in the area, and there are separate grants available to help connect homes to the mains gas network.

The District Council has worked alongside a number of North Yorkshire local authorities to secure cash from the Warm Homes Fund. This is an innovative funding stream established by National Grid to help make households warmer, healthier and cheaper to heat.

Councillor Angie Dale, Leader of Richmondshire District Council said: “Joining the North Yorkshire Warm Homes Fund scheme is giving our most vulnerable residents the opportunity to upgrade their heating facilities and keep warm for less."

“The scheme is also helping to improve the energy efficiency of properties in Richmondshire by replacing old heating systems with A-rated gas central heating.”

Award winning community interest company YES Energy Solutions is managing the scheme on behalf of the councils. Anyone who thinks they may qualify should contact YES Energy Solutions on 01422 880100.
