Richmondshire District Council is celebrating National Apprenticeship Week (February 7-13) by highlighting some of the many businesses currently employing apprentices.
For the past four years the authority has offered support to local businesses in taking on an apprentice. So far 60 local businesses have benefitted from a boost of up to £3,000 to help towards the costs.
To mark apprentice week several businesses and their apprentices will be featured in social media posts – including the council itself which currently employs eight apprentices in varying roles.
Businesses featured across the week include Purple Creative, Kiss the Moon, Andy Whiteside Carpentry and Stage One Cycles. The district council is also featured.
“These businesses demonstrate some of the many types of apprenticeship courses that are available and also the various ways that courses can be studied, including online, from a greater number of training providers,” said Sue White, Head of Business and Community.
“The growth in online courses is positive for businesses in the more remote areas of our district where travel into colleges can be difficult. This scheme helps our local businesses grow, the district to retain talent and the apprentices themselves have the potential to develop over a number of years with a supportive employer."
And Councillor Angie Dale, Leader of the Council, added: “It is important to share local success stories and we hope people are encouraged to think about apprenticeships once they have had a look at our social media campaign. There is a wealth of both practical and financial support out there and now is a great time to take the plunge.”
