National Apprenticeship Week 2023
Richmondshire District Council is celebrating National Apprenticeship Week (6 to 12 February) by highlighting some of the many businesses currently employing apprentices.
For the past five years the authority has offered support to local businesses in taking on an apprentice. So far over 100 local businesses have benefitted from a boost of up to £3,000 to help towards the costs.
To mark apprentice week several businesses and their apprentices will be featured in social media posts to showcase the excellent support businesses in the area provide, and the range of courses and opportunities that are open to apprentices.
Businesses featured across the week include the Dales Bike Centre in Reeth, the Wensleydale Brewery in Leyburn, Star MX in Catterick and the Yorebridge House Hotel in Bainbridge – it has two apprentices, including the General Manager, who is undertaking a Level 6 degree level apprenticeship currently.
“These businesses demonstrate some of the many types of apprenticeship courses that are available and also the various ways that courses can be studied, including online, from a greater number of training providers,” said Sue White, Head of Business and Community.
“The growth in online courses is positive for businesses in the more remote areas of our district where travel into colleges can be difficult. This scheme helps our local businesses grow, the district to retain talent and the apprentices themselves have the potential to develop over a number of years with a supportive employer.”
Councillor Angie Dale, Leader of the Council, added: “It is important to share local success stories and we hope people are encouraged to think about apprenticeships once they have had a look at our social media campaign. There is a wealth of both practical and financial support out there and now is a great time to take the plunge.”
The current round of grant support to businesses who may be looking to take on an apprentice, or retrain an existing employee through an apprenticeship, is open until the end of March 2023. Interested businesses can make an application for the funds using the online form on our apprenticeships page.
We will be sharing local apprenticeship stories on our Facebook and Twitter sites this week.
