Richmondshire District Council

Planning application at Catterick Garrison

A planning application to extend the number of homes built on a site in Catterick Garrison does not fall within the Garrison’s Masterplan area.

The planning application for housing at Cookson Way has not been determined yet and the decision will be made at a future meeting of the District Council’s Planning Committee. Residents and other consultees will be able make representations at the meeting in the usual way.

The District Council is developing a Masterplan with input from the MoD to deliver the infrastructure required to meet the Army’s future plans for Catterick Garrison and the civilian housing growth in the Garrison area. This Masterplan will form part of the council’s Local Plan which is the planning document that guides all planning decision making and which is currently in the process of formal review.

The Local Plan, which includes the assessment of suitable housing within the Garrison Area as well as sites across the district must follow a statutory review process that includes significant consultation and evidence gathering that will inform future growth in the district. The comments of residents, businesses and consultees such as the County Council Highways Department are important in this process. Before the adoption of the Local Plan it will be submitted to an independent Planning Inspector and it will be examined at a Public Inquiry.

The MoD Assessment Study is a separate piece of work being undertaken by the Army to look into their specific infrastructure requirements, and they will be involving District Planning and County Highways Officers in discussions as its findings emerge.

Further information will be provided in due course.
