Richmondshire District Council

Unclaimed small business grants

The hunt for the owners of more than 50 Richmondshire based businesses is on.

District Council officers are reviewing websites and public records to look for contact details for the businesses and charity groups – all of which are registered for business rates and could therefore be eligible for one of the government’s coronavirus small business grant schemes.

The council has so far paid out £16.3 million in aid to 1402 organisations. Of those businesses still on the books as unclaimed 150 are being emailed, and 270 are being called by council staff. Some properties’ will need to be written to but that leaves another 50 unaccounted for – where the council has no contact details for the property.

“We urge businesses that haven’t claimed for this aid to contact us. They may think they are ineligible or they may not want to claim,” said Chief Executive, Tony Clark.

“Either way we need to hear from them so we can account for them in our system. We are working hard to make sure everyone receives what they are owed, but in these 50 or so cases we need some help.”

The online grants service for small business rate relief, rural rate relief and retail, hospitality and leisure grants was launched on March 27. To submit a form organisations are asked to click on the link below - they will require their business rates accounts information:
