Aid for Richmondshire businesses
Richmondshire businesses are set to receive additional rate relief from the District Council.
The authority has already awarded relief to almost 60 pubs – which can get up to £1,000 per property.
Now councillors are looking to support small businesses – especially those facing large increases because of the loss of small business or rural rate relief. Affected ratepayers will pay no more than £600 additional rates during 2017/18 compared to 2016/17.
Tonight (Tuesday September 12) members of the Council’s Corporate Board are also considering a discretionary rate relief award scheme to limit increases for all businesses suffering more than an 8% increase in business rates in 2017/18 compared to 2016/17.
The aid is being supported by government funding, and is not expected to cost the Council money.
“Together these three schemes will limit increases suffered by businesses because of the revaluation of business properties that came into effect from April 2017,” said Council Leader, Councillor Yvonne Peacock.
“It is important that we support our local businesses – especially those small traders that are facing large increases. They are the backbone of Richmondshire.”
