Action plan for improvements
Richmondshire councillors have endorsed an action plan which will take the authority on an ambitious ‘improvement journey’.
The plan has been drawn up following a review in November last year when a five strong team appointed by the Local Government Association were invited to look at ways in which the district council could improve and develop economic and housing growth. The review team spent three days talking to council staff, councillors, partners and stakeholders.
It concluded that Richmondshire is an ‘ambitious’ authority wanting to increase services where it can to support local residents. But it said that to achieve its aspirations for development and growth the council needed to focus on creating clear priorities and actions – and encourage wider engagement with stakeholders.
Last night (Tuesday June 13) members of the Corporate Board approved an action plan which detailed the ten key recommendations of the review – which include strengthening the council’s financial position to sustain services; developing and strengthening two way internal communications; closer work with partners and outside agencies; and looking at income generation streams.
“The council was very pleased with the final report from the review team as it recognised the good work of staff and councillors, while providing guidance on the future direction of travel,” said Council Leader, Councillor Yvonne Peacock.
“Our action plan will guide us on our improvement programme to make some of the changes suggested by the team.”
