A £100,000 plus programme to upgrade Richmondshire’s 14 public toilets has been given the green light.
District Councillors expect to see the work completed by the end of March next year – ready for the tourist season to kick in.
It will include improvements ranging from renewal of washing facilities through to internal and external decoration at the facilities in Richmond, Reeth, Hawes, Leyburn, Muker, Middleham, Gunnerside, Keld, Cattterick Garrison, Bainbridge, Grinton and Langthwaite.
Councillor Yvonne Peacock, Leader of the Council, explained: “We introduced a small charge for using our public toilets – and that has placed these much valued facilities on a more sustainable footing.
“Now we are ploughing money into improving the facilities – upgrading them for our residents and tourists.
“The improvement work will start in the coming weeks and be completed by the end of March ensuring that these facilities continue to be fit for purpose moving forward.”
