We have a duty to help if you're homeless or in danger of becoming so. From 3 April 2018, The Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 places new legal duties on local authorities to provide advice and assistance to those who are homeless or likely to become homeless within 56 days.
You may be classed as homeless if you:
- Have nowhere to live in the UK or elsewhere
- Have been told by your landlord/family or friend that you must leave your accommodation, rented or otherwise
- Are afraid to go home because someone has been or may be violent towards you or your family
- Don't have the owner's permission to stay
- Can't stay in your home for any other reason such as:
i) leaving the armed forces
ii) a relationship breakdown
iii) suffering from a mental illness
iv) leaving care
v) released from prison
vi) discharged from hospital
