Richmondshire District Council

Council tax

Council tax is a property-based tax collected by local councils and is used to pay for local services.

One council tax bill is sent to a property, regardless of how many people live there. Bills are sent in March, with the first payment due in April.

The amount you pay depends on the overall amount set each year by the council and on the valuation band of your home.

You can pay in instalments over ten months by contacting our local taxation team before 15 April, or over twelve months before 15 March.

The amount you have to pay may be reduced depending on a property's, or your, circumstances. See our discounts and reliefs page for more information.
