Richmondshire District Council

Business administration level 3 qualification

A local planning authority (LPA) is the local government body that is empowered by law to exercise urban planning functions for a particular area. Local planning authorities have a crucial role in the deployment of fixed and mobile infrastructure at a local level.

Working at the heart of a busy Planning department you will assist in the administrative tasks involved in making decisions for infrastructure across Richmondshire.

From the proposal for a housing developer to build a new housing estate, an extension being built on a residential property and the roll out of 5G, you will support the team administratively along each step of the planning application process. You will play an important role in monitoring, assessing, and capturing associated data.

This role also involves providing support to the council’s Climate Change Officer.

Richmondshire District Council were one of the first local authorities to declare a Climate Emergency and have pledged to reach a carbon neutral status by 2030. Your administrative support will play a key role in the successful roll out of the council’s Climate Change Action Plan, and you will support making the council’s ideas for change a reality.

The Planning department is a fast paced, challenging environment. It will allow you to gain invaluable skills and experience within a local authority and the perfect starting point for a future, successful career in business and planning.
