Richmondshire District Council

Apprenticeships programme

At Richmondshire District Council our apprenticeship programme has been developed to meet the career aspirations of our community.

Richmondshire District Council is a small but dynamic authority. Once you have joined us, you will quickly become part of our team. Being part of our smaller council means that there are real opportunities to undertake work and gain experience from our experienced officers, and develop skills that will have a real impact on the services we provide to our community.

What is an apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship is the opportunity to gain valuable, hands-on experience from existing staff while you train and obtain qualifications. It is a paid position, allowing you to earn while you learn.

Twenty percent of your working week is set aside for learning, in conjunction with an approved training provider. The remaining time will be committed to developing your knowledge and skills in the workplace, doing a job that has the potential to kick start your career. At the end of it, you will gain official certification, which will be equivalent to traditional qualifications.

As an apprentice, you will need to demonstrate a real commitment to working and developing the skills and behaviours needed to develop competence in your post, and meet the high standards required of Officers of the council. You are also required to attend your training programme, making a commitment to learning and completing the course successfully.

You will work closely with the council’s Apprenticeship Co-Ordinator and your training provider to successfully progress along the apprenticeship training programme. This includes familiarising, preparing and completing the various standards including end point assessments in order to gain successful accreditation.
