Waste disposal guidance

Guidance for waste disposal during the coronavirus crisis has been released.

Richmondshire District Council is urging residents to follow the Defra guidance which asks that people who are self isolating - or could have the virus - to put all disposable tissues and cloths into a separate rubbish bag. The bag should then be tied and placed in a second bag and securely stored until negative test results are known or the waste has been stored for at least 72 hours.

All waste collections are operating as normal and any changes to collections will be posted on the council’s social media pages and Richmondshire District Council website.

  • Residents are also asked to take care when disposing of lithium batteries - look for a local recycling centre or take to the nearest civic amenity site instead of throwing them in the waste bins which can cause a fire.
