Landlord services, the team which looks after our council housing, remains open for business, we are just doing things differently.
Our key priority is to protect the health and wellbeing of our staff and our tenants by stopping the spread of the virus wherever we can. This means avoiding face-to-face contact wherever possible and, where this is absolutely necessary, only by appointment after taking appropriate precautions.
The majority of our staff are working from home in order to prevent the spread of the virus.
Key services still available are outlined below.
We have had to make the difficult decision to suspend all advertisements for vacant council properties. This decision comes into force from April 9. It has been prompted by the significant restrictions in social mobility, many applicants not bidding due to current restrictions on moving home, and vacant properties not being repaired and ready for letting. Any allocations already made will be honoured.
Anyone wishing to apply for future consideration for accommodation can still apply online via the North Yorkshire Home Choice website.
We are responding to urgent and emergency repairs only. All tenants will be asked about their health before an appointment is made so please don’t be offended. The attending operative will be wearing additional personal protective equipment. Where a home visit is essential please keep your distance from the operative.
Sheltered housing wardens and relief wardens continue to provide a service for residents in the usual way. Our schemes are not in “lock down” but we are asking that comings and goings are kept to an absolute minimum and for family, friends and non-urgent service providers to act responsibly.
Our sheltered housing properties are being deep cleaned with on-going cleaning focusing on disinfecting regularly used surfaces, such as bannisters and door handles.
For coronavirus guidance for those working and living in communal accommodation visit North Yorkshire County Council's website.
Rent and service charges
Rent and service charges can still be paid and we are urging payments to be made wherever possible. However, if you are struggling to pay your rent please contact us on 01748 829100 as soon as possible so we can help you.
We will still continue to deal with anti-social behaviour, but only the most urgent and extreme cases. Again, if in doubt please contact us.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
