Safe summer driving

August is National Road Victims month. This month sees the highest number of deaths on Britain's roads due to:

  • drivers are more likely to be travelling on unfamiliar roads as they head off to airports or holiday destinations
  • an increase in the number of passengers (children/family members) in a vehicle means that drivers are more distracted
  • during the school holidays more children are playing out near roads

Take a look at the York and North Yorkshire Road Safety Partnership travel summer checklist.

Due to the recent flooding in Richmondshire, it is also worth bearing in mind that journeys may take a little longer due to diversions, or there may still be considerable amounts of surface water collecting on the roads.
