Setting up a community business
Across the UK, there’s an increasing number of residents setting up democratically owned and run enterprises. In rural areas, The Plunkett Foundation has helped over 600 groups establish successful community-run shops, pubs and even woodlands.
Plunkett are currently funded by the Esmée Fairburn Foundation to help groups set up new community businesses in rural areas. Support varies depending on the needs and interests of each group but can include time with specialist advisors, study visits, and the provision of various technical resources to help with each stage of establishing the business.
To find out more about community businesses and the support available to set one up, please visit The Plunkett Foundation website or call the foundation on 01993 810730 for an informal chat.
