Beacon inspectors' report

What did the Inspectors say?

As part of the Beacon process Richmondshire was assessed by a Specialist Panel Member, the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, the Improvement and Development Agency and the relevant Government Agency. Here is a selection of some of the comments that they made.

"Application indicates a well run council which is performing well and committed to further improvements. Particularly strong on consultation and partnership working." ODPM – Beacon Council Scheme: Round 4 – General Performance Assessment First Sift

"Excellent vision and strategy for tackling problems in rural areas and engaging local communities. Some evidence to suggest good partnership working and culture of learning and sharing information." Beacon Council Scheme: Round 4 Theme Assessment: First Sift by Policy Official.

"The Council has developed an innovative approach to the establishment of six Community Investment Prospectuses (CIPs) which together cover the entire District. There is involvement of a wide range of players in determining the Strategies of these CIPs embracing such issues as arts, skills and learning and transport. The key feature of a CIP is that each community sets out the investment that they would like to see take place, based on an analysis of need." Beacon Council Scheme: Round 4 Final theme sub-group report.
