Richmondshire District Council – A Beacon
Council
A mark of excellence and innovation in local
Government
Each year the Government gives awards to local authorities and
public services. The Beacon Council Scheme identifies centres of
excellence from which others can learn. In 2003 Richmondshire
District Council was awarded Beacon Council Status for the first
time. It was given the award to demonstrate the excellent service
being provided in its support for the rural
economy. The Beacon Council Scheme helps share good
practice so that these best value authorities have opportunities to
learn from each other and deliver high quality services to
everybody. The Beacon year was so successful, that the Supporting
the Rural Economy Beacon Authorities have successfully accessed
additional funding, and are now in the second year of an innovative
bespoke mentoring programme.
