The Richmondshire Lifestyle

Richmondshire lies within the Northern part of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The district is home to many quintessential market towns hidden amidst the Dales. Richmondshire was ranked 33rd out of 408 local authorities in Experian's quality of life index, mainly because of its tranquil and spectacular surroundings.
Although the district is predominantly rural in character, there is certainly no shortage of activity in the area. Tourism forms the economic foundation of the district and ramblers and tourists alike flock to view the impressive limestone scenery and rolling hills of the dales. Popular attractions include Aysgarth Falls, Middleham Castle and many other beautiful heritage sites in the vicinity.
Great schools, health facilities and a range of excellent housing to choose from, all add to the outstanding environment of the area and create a quality of life that is second to none.
There are many beautiful towns in Richmondshire. Surrounded by the hills of Swaledale, Richmond is a beautiful town with a large cobbled market place, supposedly the biggest in the UK. Richmond also boasts the oldest Georgian theatre in England and charming riverside and town walks. The impressive Richmond Castle overlooks the market town below.
Leyburn is an attractive market town hidden deep in the Dales and known as 'a town for all seasons' as it has something to offer visitors all year round. Leyburn 'Shawl' is only a short walk from the market place and gives superb views over Wensleydale.
Hawes in Wensleydale is one of England's highest altitude market towns. It is also the location for the Wensleydale Cheese factory, where you can tour the creamery and indulge in a spot of cheese tasting.

Communications

ROAD
The A1 Dual Carriageway/Motorway, in close proximity to the Industrial Estates at Colburn and Richmond, provides a direct link with the country's main motorway network. Conveniently situated midway between Tyneside and West Yorkshire, a potential of 4.5 million consumers exists within a 50 mile radius. The renowned communications crossroads of Scotch Corner is approximately 5 miles North of Richmond, so both estates are well placed to act as a central location for Anglo/Scottish distribution.

RAIL
Easy access is available to main line railway services at both Darlington and Northallerton, both some 15 miles distance from Richmond. The fastest trains from London reach Darlington in 2 hours and 30 minutes. Garsdale Station, 4 miles from Hawes on the Leeds/Settle/Carlisle line is an important link for the rural west.

AIR
Durham Tees Valley International Airport has an expanding range of domestic and international scheduled destinations and is situated just 12 miles form Richmond. Air cargo facilities are available at Durham Tees Valley International Airport and several freight forwarders are based there.
Larger regional airports are easily reached at Leeds/Bradford, Newcastle and Manchester.

SEA
Both Walkerville and Gallowfields trading estates are strategically placed to take advantage of the excellent deep water port facilities at Teesport. This port can offer a full range of import/export shipping services including RO/RO and container services to and from locations world-wide.
