Carbon - challenges and opportunities for business
Tuesday 20th July 2010, Holiday Inn, York, 8am-11.00am
The launch of the CRC (Carbon Reduction Commitment) energy
efficiency scheme in April placed carbon reduction firmly on the
agenda for large public sector organisations and businesses.
However, all businesses can benefit from identifying opportunities
to reduce their carbon footprint and whilst not captured by the
current legislation, many will be asked to provide information and
match the commitments of their partners, customers and competitors.
This briefing will look at the drivers for business to reduce its
carbon footprint and explore some opportunities for your business
to meet the carbon challenge.

2012 Initiatives
The London 2012 Business Network helps companies compete for Games-related business opportunities directly with London 2012 or with suppliers in its supply chain. Part of the Business Network is the ‘CompeteFor’ service, a business ‘dating agency’ that matches companies to thousands of opportunities supplying London 2012 contractors, with up to 20% of all London 2012 supply chain opportunities expected to go through the system. The Business Network also has details of the latest London 2012 business events and information to help businesses get involved. 21 companies from Yorkshire have already won contracts related to the Olympic Games, more than the number that has gone to overseas companies. In early 2009, the steel structures that will support the Stadium roof will be erected, which have been fabricated by the Thirsk based company Severfield-Rowen.
