Maintenance of the District Councils street lights is carried out in partnership with North Yorkshire County Council.
 
If you wish to report a street light which is not working you can fill out our online form or ring the following number at any time (answer phone during busy periods or out of hours):

The following information should be given:
  • Name of town or village.
  • Name of road if known or general location.
  • Number painted or affixed to the lighting column or the nearest house number or name.

The majority of faults are generally due to lamp failure and the repairs are undertaken within five working days.
 
Other more serious faults, such as no electrical supply, takes longer because the fault becomes the responsibility of the electrical company who may be required to carry out repair works to underground cables.
 
If a street light has been seriously damaged e.g. hit by a vehicle or exposed electric cables, this can also be reported on 0845 8 72 73 74. This type of reported incident would be treated as an emergency.
