Richmondshire District Council operates a wide range of recycling and waste reduction schemes. It encourages its residents to participate in all initiatives in order to help the Council reach statutory government recycling targets.
On average, every home in Richmondshire produces a tonne of rubbish each year. Most of this rubbish is buried in a landfill site and as it breaks down it releases substances that are harmful to the environment.
The government wants to reduce the use of landfill sites and has set tough targets for councils to meet. In Richmondshire we recycled 42% of our waste in 2009/2010. With your help, the Council is confident that this can be exceeded.
Please check these pages regularly to find out what you can do, and to keep up to date on recycling schemes and other initiatives being implemented.
