Richmondshire Keep
It Clean, Keep It Green! Joining Forces For Annual Clean Up
Campaign
Litter, graffiti and criminal damage are the
focus of a summer campaign which aims to involve everyone in
Richmondshire!
Richmondshire District Council and
Richmondshire Community Safety Partnership supported by
volunteers from Richmond YMCA, are running a joint campaign aimed
at tackling litter, graffiti and other elements of environmental
anti-social behaviour throughout the district.
We are encouraging residents to take an active
part in taking pride in their area and making it a clean and
pleasant place for all to enjoy. You are invited to join your
community and get involved in your local area.
District Council staff will loan litter
grabbing tongs, bags and gloves to volunteer groups and your
activities will be fully supported and lead by your local District
Councillor. All that is required from you is some time, energy and
community spirit!
Events will take place throughout the District
as part of the campaign, which runs from Sunday 5 August.
Local ward members have been pledging their support for the
initiative and will help mobilise residents to action.
“Litter, graffiti and criminal damage, such as
vandalism, is something that makes people feel uncomfortable, and
often unsafe, in the area they live,” explains Community Safety
Officer, Kate Davies. “The campaign will help us do something
practical to clean up hotspot areas and create a visual audit of
incidents of criminal damage for us to deal with.”
Members of Richmond’s YMCA are supporting the
litter pick effort, and will use disposable cameras to record and
report cases of vandalism, graffiti and criminal damage.
“It would be great if as many villages,
residents and community groups as possible could hold some kind of
event, like a litter pick, or clear up, as part of the campaign,”
adds Councillor Loadman. “Litter, graffiti and vandalism can
be a problem in Richmondshire and we will continue to work hard to
combat it.”
