What is this new service?
From October 2006, an Alternate Weekly Collection
System has operated in approximately 60% of the
district. The scheme works whereby one week your recyclable
waste is collected using your green box, blue bag and green
wheeled bin. The following week the rest of your waste is
collected in your grey wheeled bin.
Why did the collection system
changed?
We must all take responsibility for the amount of waste we
produce. We have to change our waste collection system in
order to meet targets set by Government. If we do not meet
these targets, tough financial penalties will be imposed. The
new alternate weekly collection system is the most efficient way in
which the Council can collect your waste, and has proved successful
in more that 160 local authorities across the country.
What do I put in my grey bin?
Household waste which cannot be recycled. You should
already have a green box for your glass and cans, a blue bag for
your paper and a green bin for your garden waste. Any other
materials that cannot be recycled in these containers, or at your
local recycling centre, can be placed in the grey bin. This
waste currently goes to landfill.
Where is my bin collected from?
From the kerbside. You should place the relevant
containers at the closest point to the edge of the nearest main
highway, in such a position that they do not cause and obstruction.
Bin handles should be facing towards the road and containers must
be out for collection before 7.30am on your
scheduled collection day.
Assisted Collections
An assisted collection service may be available if all
residents of the household are unable to present their containers
as requested. For further details, or to apply for help,
